As the year comes to an end, I must say it did go by extremely quickly. With the World Cup having come and gone and it’s legacy left behind, we now look to carry that celebration of success through to 2011. Well, so some club/restaurant owners thought, until they heard about the new, harsh liquor laws which will come into place as soon as January 1st 2011. The new laws prohibit establishments in business areas from serving alcohol after 2am, while places such as clubs and restaurants in residential areas will have to stop selling by 11pm. But what exactly does that mean for places like Cafe Caprice, St Yves and Deco Dance?
There will be a meeting held today for many Cape Town Club Owners who say they are confused by these new laws. There is still a bit of confusion around the topic and this statement I found on IOL proves that. Many of the establishments’ owners said they had renewed their liquor licences for 2011 under the former regulations and did not know how the new law would affect them. “We still have a licence to operate until 2am – we will do so until further notice,” said Rachel Liepaz, owner of Stardust Restaurant in Rondebosch – IOL
I know this is a shit thing from my perspective, as I will have to stop jolling that much earlier. This might make way for a new trend, which sees people re-locating to house parties and private venues later on in the evenings 😉 I won’t be complaining about that, I love house parties! This will definitely affect local alcohol sales, as many people purchase the majority of their drinks between 11pm – 4am…
Looks like alcohol brands are going to have to look to have more on site consumption, which could mean more promoting and event sponsorship! Once again the more brands that throw these mansion parties in summer, the merrier in my eyes 😉 One more thing, chick will not be as drunk and therefore not as easy, guys will have to get their A game out for 2011 if they looking to bed some squeezers, via the club route anyway 😉 Any further queries are expected to be cleared up in today’s meeting with the Cape City Council…
Wat the FUCK?!?!!?!?!
so bleek. underground tik den lookalike after hours venues like they are the way of the future. FAIL
People are just going to buy more alcohol right before the bar closes. Binge drink. Or buy a bottle of wine in a cooler, or a bottle of vodka. There are always ways to get around this sort of thing. They had the same law back in the day and people just got ridiculous before 11/2. Sucks for those who cant get a table at a club.
Yeah I get ya, but bottles start getting pricey and if you have mates like me they wanna drink free bottles, not pay for them. scums! LOL. I just cant imagine leaving to go home at 11.30pm!
