Vitamin Water may not be the product you think it is. However they have done extensive marketing in order to create the image in our mind that it is beneficial to our health and is a product which is ‘packed with vitamins’. Coca-Cola is being sued by a non-profit public interest group, charging the giant distributor with making unwarranted health claims about Vitamin Water.
Coke have come back with the reply: “No consumer could reasonably be misled into thinking Vitamin Water was a healthy beverage.” Why then do they use the name Vitamin Water? Extensive marketing campaigns, sponsorship and strategic product placement constantly advertise the health benefits of the product. They clearly appeal to a young affluent market and their massive billboard campaign showing youngsters in colourful, trendy clothing has definitely to grad their target audiences attention. I have lots of mates who used to drink Vitamin Water religiously, but have since moved away from consuming the product. At R16 I have been fooled twice in my hungover state, once at Sinful as it is the only drink they stock and another time at 7/11 because the visual appeal was just to enticing (fuckers)!
After doing some brief research online I has found out that too much of the sugar loaded product can cause stomach alsers and that clearly is not the way to get loyal consumers on board! I am a fan of their advertising strategy and I feel they have done well to penetrate a difficult sector within the FMCG market. If we look at the actual product, it turns out to be sugar-water, to which about a pinch of synthetic vitamins are added. And the amount of sugar is astounding. A bottle of Vitamin Water has 33 grams of sugar, making it more like a soft drink than a healthy beverage.
So on the marketing side of this all, it turns out that Vitamin Water used an excellent marketing ploy to get consumers to adopt their unhealthy new product. However, they might find it a bit more difficult to loose this new image they have after misleading consumers about the product and its benefits!
so thats why they wan to throw a dopp with it? huh, was asked the other day about that <— bring it on lets make some drinks now !
what do you think Mr Cape Town?
although the hangover will be deadly…
I am not a fan of arteficial products and misleading marketing schemes π
I’ll hit a Vodka Vitamin Water if you are paying Rosso!
What a post!! Very informative and easy to understand. Looking for more such blog posts!! Do you have a twitter or a facebook?
I recommended it on digg. The only thing that it’s missing is a bit of speed, the pictures are appearing slowly. Nevertheless thank you for this information.
Follow me on Twitter at Mr_Capetown. It might be a problem from your side, as the speed of loading is great for me on numerous computers. Thanks for the feedback!
Good Post Mr C,
I’ve heard a lot of noise regarding this, I think the next step would be to get a response from them. I’ll personally wait to hear what they say before I purchase another bottle. The price is not really an issue, Look at a bottle of fruit juice with the same mass, you looking at a R2-R3 diff.
Awethu!
great comment Fox. I have tried to get a responce but once again no reply. I tried a while back to get hold of someone from Vitamin Water for sponsorship but they tend to not reply…It seems their product is not the only bad apple because their customer relationship management is definitely not up to scratch!
Interesting and it could be interesting seeing what folks have to add.
gonna send this to my mom she loves the stuff…LOL
I am not sure she will after she finds out the truth π
Freakin nice blog.
This is like trying to sue Mc Donald’s (“You might be surprised at how seriously we take your childβs nutritional needs.” http://www.mcdonalds.com/us/en/food/food_quality/nutrition_choices.html).
It is the customers responsibility to read the ingredients of a product. People must be ignorant to believe they were getting their daily intake of vitamins from Vitamin Water (GDA’s are available on the bottle and website http://www.coca-cola.co.uk/brands/glaceau.html)
Advertising (Dictionary: describe or draw attention to (a product, service, or event) in a public medium in order to promote sales or attendance) is not looking for your health or well being. It is promoting sales.
Dont be fooled.
some great links…shot, but you know what they say ignorance is bliss π
