All the hype should come to an end today, with England & Russia in the driving seat to host the 2018 FIFA World Cup. As much as I want it to go to England and the home of football, I believe it is fair to give every Country a fair chance to prove their worth! Imagine if they never gave us the chance to host our extremely successful World Cup Campaign only 6 months ago? I do not think our country would be where it is today!
The World Cup not only brought people together as a nation, but increased the following of our national side by 10 fold. If anyone was also at the Bafana vs USA game at Cape Town Stadium a few weeks ago, you will know exactly what I am referring to. The stadium was packed, the gees was out and more and more white supporters are fining their way to local PSL games. This is only a start but I feel hosting the FIFA WC 2010 went a long way in making this happen!
Now it is time for the 2018 venue to be decided and it looks as if it is between the UK & Russia. I was just watching Prince Harry’s final bid speech and am really looking forward to finding out the outcome! David Beckham is leading the way for the English contingent, as the ambassador for the campaign! If it is in the UK, you will no doubt see me there, as there is no way in hell I will miss a WC in the home of football. The best part being that I know so many people that live over there, so accommodation is no problem at all. Just need to save up money for tickets, kits and a shit load of beer 😉
It has been said that the scenes that unfolded at Birmingham City’s stadium mid week could hamper the attempts of the English WC committee, as flairs were let off in the stadium following their Carling Cup encounter with Aston Villa. I would hate to see a country loose their World Cup bid because of some ignorant, idiotic fans!
