Cops find 37 kids in one taxi

The laws on our raods are becoming more and more strict. Why then is this problem being overlooked and threatening the lives of our nations youth daily? 37 kids in one taxi is ridiculous and something should be done about this problem!

I know we all hate the taxi’s for some or other reason, there is no denying that. When one of my mates from High School started as a driver, I learnt a whole lot about the taxi world. It is a dog eat dog world in this industry, hence all the problems that arise from it’s existence daily. Cutting in front of other drivers, pulling over randomly without indicating, shouting Keip Tewn out of windows and just generally breaking the law is what they do best!

Kids pile out of a local taxi that was carrying 37 passengers!

This time it was no different and during a local roadblock the other morning, 15 out of the 15 taxi’s that were pulled over in the Western Cape were illegal in some way! Whether it be with regard to licence’s, overloading, road worthy issues or even outstanding fines, to be honest most of the drivers do not give two shits! One thing I was worried about was the amount of kids they found in these overloaded vans. I mean we have all been in an overloaded car at some point in our lives, but 37 kids in a Toyota which was manufactured to hold 14 passengers, is unheard of!!!

This incident in 2010 saw 48 school kids climb out of one minibus taxi!!!

It is no secret that our youth need to utilise public transport to get to and from school daily. The issue lies with the owners/drivers of these vehicles who care more about an extra R6 tool, than the life of their passengers! Something needs to get done about this issue and I feel much stricter regulations must be put into place, which suspends drivers who put other passengers lives in danger! Here are some of the quotes from the newspaper article which I found to be mind blowing!

    This is ridiculous!

Unfortunately our city has not been designed for public transport, the dedicated bus lanes are all the taxis have to use and that doesn’t apply to Sea Point/Camps Bay etc. (Not an excuse for the overloading and reckless driving)

They should never have dismantled the trams!

Oh my sack, how sick would trams from Hout Bay all the way through to Langebaan be!

These kids must be transported safely and after a taxi hit someone and killed them on Somerset RD, Greenpoint just the other day, it proves how useless these muppets actually are!
