Old Green Point Stadium To Undergo R70 mil Revamp!

The remnants of the old Green Point Athletics Stadium, will soon be transformed into a completely revamped 5 500-seater, IAAF standard, multi-use Athletics Stadium. It will be complete with new clubhouses and change rooms, as well as an upgraded A-Track. But, do we really need this facility?

The City of Cape Town yesterday announced that the old Green Point stadium is to be revamped in the coming year. I was wondering why the Hell that ugly old shell was left there for the World to see, next to what can only be described as one of the best stadiums, locations and pitches on the planet. I say that in confidence, as I have actually had the privilege of playing on the Cape Town Stadium pitch 😉 The project will be completed and ready for use by the end of 2012, or so they say… It is said that the project will cost a whopping R70 000 000, which once again raises the question; Do we really need a state of the art athletics track?

“The remnants of the old Green Point Athletics Stadium, A-Track and club houses – some of which were either partially or completely demolished for the construction of the Cape Town Stadium – will soon be transformed into a completely revamped 5 500-seater, IAAF standard, multi-use Athletics Stadium, complete with new clubhouses and change rooms, as well as an upgraded A-Track. This project forms an integral part of the new Green Point Urban Park.” City of Cape Town

It would be a nice addition…. woud be a good idea to build a soccer field in the middle though for local club football to utlilise.

But anyway, I can imagine they have plans to bring the Grand Prix Athletics Champs to CT so would be a welcome addition.

#CampsBayFC would love that as their home ground for matches too 😉
