Mr Delivery – Cold Food and Additional Charges

When it comes to products and services we generally have a preconceived idea as to what to expect from a specific brand. I must admit I have never been a big fan of Mr. D and probably never will be.

I am going to assume we have all used the services of Mr. Delivery during our time on earth? Like any company, I am sure you have had some good and/or bad experiences during your time using their services. When it comes to products and services we generally have a preconceived idea as to what to expect from a specific brand. I must admit I have never been a big fan of Mr. D and probably never will be.

For the past few weeks I have been like a nomad and have found myself passing out on friends couches, rather than my own bed at home. Therefore I have become more accustomed to the whole ordering out, bachelor lifestyle. Over the years I have come to expect lukewarm food and slow delivery times from the Mr. Delivery brand and I must add that some of the characters that deliver the food are pure cookers! But, last night I saw something new that I had never noticed before. I saw that there was a charge for the delivery, as well as another charge for processing? Now correct me if I am wrong but how on earth can it cost almost as much to process the order, than to deliver the food! This brought up the question amongst our mates about how much you should actually tip these ‘delivery guys’.

Mr. D branded vehicles makes their shocking driving easier to notice 😉

I am a huge fan of Butlers Pizza and Primi Piatti, as they adopt a free delivery policy. I believe this see’s that the actual people who deliver the pizza reap the rewards of the tip system and not the actual company by overcharging customers. So I was wondering how much you normally tip the delivery guy when he pops over to your house with supper? We found on our bill that the delivery and processing costs came up to a total of almost R27, which was about 10% of the total bill. Now most of us common peeps keep a R10 or R20 aside to give the driver as a tip for bringing us our food, but next time keep an eye out for any extra charges on the bill, as the tip may end up being a lot more than you thought it was 😉 Oh, one more thing; Does it not piss you off that you have to repeat everything 5 times to the employee on the phone? Which generally slews your airtime a bit more than you initially intended!

They might as well sell airtime too because they take so damn long on the phone...

In conclusion, I have nothing against tipping people for good service or delivering goods, but what I don’t like is companies charging R15 to ‘process an order’ as well as charging R19 delivery fee on top of that!!!

Agreed… And if you do charge for delivery, at least tell the customer on the phone. Sneaky sneaky fine print.

    Hi

We take comments like this very seriously and so I would like to make contact regarding the processing fee that is charged.

Mr delivery is trying very hard to better its service to the customer.

The processing fee that was introduced in November 2009 was done so in order to make the business sustainable for all.

We realise extra charges are not nice for the customer but we will soon be introducing specials and added value for the customer that will make the Mr delivery purchase a pleaant purchase and not a grudge purchase.

Please send me your details as we do care about our customers and I would like to send you some vouchers for the time taken to raise these issues.

We as new owners of this business have a number of initiatives in the pipeline that will change the way you think about Mr delivery.

    Kind Regards

@ Franktt: Thank you very much for replying to this message and this is exactly what one would expect from a delivery company that has dominating the fast food market for such a long time…It is great to know someone takes customer service seriously in this sector and I look forward to hearing about your new initiatives and specials. Please do send me a copy of them so I can advertise them for you when the time comes as a thank you for the vouchers 😉 My email address is Dylan@campsbay.net or Dylan2580@gmail.com. Have a great Sunday!

      Here is an idea.
Instead of letting a client wait 3 hours for food that gets to you freezing cold, perhaps better that part of the service.

I dont care about all the charges you are paying for convenience, but what gets me is that i am paying for ice cold food thats delivered at a crazy time.

Hahaha 2 years later. Never experiencing Mr D till i moved to CT. Cold food on delivery. Having to call the store cause they have taken so long I forgot I was hungry and feel like i’m paying more to get my food delivered than the cost of the food itself! really Sad!

So nothing has changed over 2 years and i havent seen 1 special on their website!

    What happened Franktt?

You forgot to mention that their processing fee is per item – sometimes as high as 35% of the item’s in store price.

My pet peev however are delivery men(never once encounted a woman doing deliveries) that expect you to go look for them when they claim they cant find your residence. I mean, if you’re employing people who cant even find their way around their assigned area why the !@#$ should we be endulging in your claim to be a delivery service?
