Strain – Beartrap Productions

We strained his brain and got some idea of this new beasts past, inspiration, best songs, his mix from Beartrap and more...Watch this space!!!

I am sure some of you may remember the beast write-up I did for PsyMedia & Beartrap, after attending their Celestial Beings 2 Event a couple of weeks back. I unfortunately missed this guys debut set and I actually left him out of the write up all together. Swak one. I know if I just played my debut set and didn’t get a mention I would cook out a bit. So I caught up with Strain, a new artist Beartrap signed at the end of last year to pick his brain about psy trance, parties, music and his story. Enjoy his Beartrap Productions: Celestial Beings 2 debut DJ set. Have a listen while you read about this talented new artist!

Strain @ Celestial beings II by Strain

He tore okes a new one at Beartrap apparently. Can't wait for his next gig!

Strain was signed by Beartrap Productions towards the end of 2010 and has proved his worth since joining the Trap Crew. His debut set above is psy jizz material and I am actually bleak I missed it now. Some of the trance veterans have had some good things to say about the lad and think he could go all the way to the top!

Preparing to open these hippies at one of his indoor gigs. Where is this it looks sick!

Rahil Malde aka Strain was born and grew up in Mombasa, Kenya. He went to his first ever psy jol in Goa, India at the ripe age of 16 and that is where his passion for music and the trance scene emerged. He decided to move to Cape Town in 2008 and funnily enough it was not the music that drew him to us, but rather civil engineering at our very own UCT. As most students do, he got sucked into the Cape Town Trance Scene and this is where his deep love for music was born. By the end of 2009 he decided to make the move to the other side of the decks. Many of my mates who love the music have made this move, namely; Headroom, EMP, Deleriant, Humerous and now Strain.

I wish I could have gone to a party in Goa when I was 16...Definitely on my to do list, after Thailand again!

These are the guys that always seem to become the big dogs too. Funny, maybe all the years of hearing top artists just did something to their ears and minds that we don’t know about. Well with the exception of EMP, as I was there for the inspirational night where they took it to a completely new level. High Voltage!!! HAHA

The crowd gave him an excellent reception at Beartrap. Nice one dude!

Mid 2010 he started working with mid 2010 i started working with Kieron (Rubix Q), Carl (Lunar), Craig (Rabdom L) and Lyle (Archive). With the likes of these demons showing you the ropes, you can’t really go wrong. That is one thing I love about the trance community. People are always willing to help someone who is keen to learn! Big up guys, that’s what makes the scene what it is today and proves why the massive growth has become a reality!

After they lined him up a few indoor gigs, he finally got his big chance at the Beartrap & Re Manufacture Heartseeker Project! It was here where he played and absolute humdinger and caught the attention of a few big names. He was immediately signed by Beartrap and given a set at their latest part. The mix is probably playing by now as you read along, so please give us some feedback! It would be much appreciated as Strain is always looking to improve his own ability and wants to know what you guys are enjoying!

His best 3 songs of all time. He said this was the hardest question he has ever had to answer. I like that and think I may use it in all of my interviews. His name comes from the industry in which he studies, as Strain is a important aspect of civil engineering 😉

this man is sick. I’ve checked his progress since he started and celestial beings was at a new level. He always seems to get the crowds going just a little harder – love watching him feed them sounds and they just get blown away – no jokes: during his 2nd track, at the one climax beat change point, girls were fainting and sh*t. stoked with this man

Awe. The only thing to better this is probably the Digicape article, with regard to Likes. Clearly a great talent. Dont forget me when you go big, or need a marketing manager/agent 😉

WOW, Dude i was at Celestial Beings 2 and didn’t leave the dance floor (except to pee and for food) for nearly 20 hours! I remember turning to my mate at some point in the night and saying, “Hey, isn’t that dude studying engineering with us at UCT???”. So I was right and that is SSSOOOO Awesome! Strain played an amazing set!

Keep it up brother cause as my love for trance just keeps growing I hope to find myself following a similar path you did!

See ya around campus for a jam!
