So we had an event on the weekend and I was chatting to all the customers about drinks etc. It really is amazing how much people love the Mojito at the moment! Even though we are drinking a very commercialised version of the drink it seems to be the number one seller in most bars, if not I would like to know what else is popular?
Round 2:
So being a bit tired of making the same drink over and over, I decided to make a couple of variations of the drink. Here are a few of the more popular ones through the night. I think when using vodka instead of rum it is called a Mosquito…
The Spiced Mojito:
4 lime cubes pressed with 25ml sugar Syrup
A small handful of mint leaves clapped between your hands
Crushed ice
50ml of spiced rum
Stir all of that with a splash of ginger beer & top with crushed ice.
The Beverley Hills Mosquito:
Simply exchange the rum for a citrus vodka and Ginger beer for a champagne of your choice.
Berry Mosquito: (which the clients couldnโt get enough of )
4 lime cubes = 1 lime cut into quarters
1 fresh chopped strawberry
12.5ml sugar syrup
12.5ml Chambord ( an awesome mixed berry and honey liqueur )
Method:
Press or muddle all of these ingredients, then add;
50ml of citrus vodka
You then add crushed ice and stir
top with a splash of soda or sparkling water
add some more crushed ice if needed.
So try those variations and if you have any other good ones let me know, Because damn people love this drink ! Peace
Nice pics Dyl, think i need a better camera or a hot assistant photographer
I’ll vote for a hot assistant ๐
why no puree in that berry mojito?
I’ll get Ross to answer hat one he is the technition… It’s a mosquito with Vods also and those Skoparรฉ shots you made us on hole one were great ๐
yo dyl, u doing the shaker course? did it december 2008, its well worth it!
My mate Ross who is their GM runs the courses. I just do a weekly drink with him on the blog. You know me Irla I drink cheap boy, cocktails are a luxury ๐
Att Ray: Puree are awesome to use to flavor your Mojito’s ! this was just what we had available at the time, i used fresh strawberries and the truth is i did not want to take to much flavor away from Chambord, you know its an awesome liqueur.
a great way to make some Puree of your own if you have a blender at home, simply grab a couple tinned peaches, pears etc and remove the syrup and blend until smooth. a squeeze bottle helps to manage the measurements.
if you are splashing out on fresh fruit and berries you may need to add syrup to give it a better texture but just remember when doing this you have to adjust your original recipe, otherwise it will be too sweet. apply to any fruit really.
I’m sure you have a few combos to share with us if this is Ray from Asoka ?
quality tender peeps !
Shot Rosso. Yeah I think it is the original Rayhargel!
hahaha, Deadly with tequila that one !
Yip as always…What you got on the cards for the week?
hey dyl , I’m feeling the champers at the moment hey ! getting ready for summer fun. I have a bar school this week so I will be in the bar creating a few things on Friday.
Oh This is for anyone in the Josi area, Skyy Global flair challenge qualifying round at Emperors palace on Saturday night. please drop by and show some support, my flair has never really been competition level but I am putting a bit of work into it for this weekend.
stay tuned for another mouthwatering drink idea ! peace
Awesome…goodluck bra hope you make them open!
Yeah the champers is always a good option this time of year. Saw a great recipe that uses strained wild strawberries. Simply strain the shit out of 4 wild strawberries and add it to a glass of cold bubbly – goes down great!
