First Frankie’s, Now Vitamin Water. Really Woolworths?

Frankie’s recently won the battle to get Woolworths to stop making their version of what can only be described as; a direct copy of the original and innovative soft drink product. Woolies can no longer produce their range of private label old school style soft drinks, after Frankie’s won their petition.

Now it seems they are onto the next one though… It’s not identical and they don’t have a whole range of flavours, but you can definitely see which brand they drew their inspiration from!!! Pretty sad from a brand like Woolies who I once saw as pretty innovative and original themselves.

What are your thoughts about this ‘new’ product development?

Naughty, naughty! Woolies have a strong enough brand. They don’t need to copy the likes of Frankies and Vitamin Water. Very lazy. Very disappointing!

When I was in the uk last year M&S also had their own vitamin water so Woolworths obviously followed like usual. No big deal cos glaceu isn’t a local product

Yeah mate, Vitamin Water has gotten back to me and said that the WW version is their own private label variant of the product… Nothing to do with Vitamin Water! So once again it is a copy of an existing product. Where has their innovation gone?

I dont know, they’re providing a cheaper alternative to Vitamin Water. Its like generic medication in a way. Vitamin water is a far larger brand than Frankies though, woolies will only steal a small drop in the ocean of vitamin waters market share

Yip, it is still a pretty similar design and idea… According to Vitamin Water they are happy that Woolies sells their own version, as well as their product! Hmm

Pick ‘n Pay seem to be doing the same thing with their branding for chicken. Elgin free range chicken has distinctive brown and sort of flesh-coloured packaging. PnP change theirs to a 90% likeness of Elgin so if you like free range and you;re not paying attention you get battery kuku.

    What does it matter?

They are copying products… Be original don’t steal ideas from the small players!
