I knew the day would come eventually and finally it has arrived. Facebook has followed in Twitter’s footsteps and made their social media platform #tag friendly! If you ask me it’s about time because I get lank annoyed with all the Instagram photo’s that people share, which are bombarded with 40 hashtags (as I am sure you do). But now, they actually serve a purpose!
Well then Morpheus I would have to say YOU ARE WRONG! Maybe he took too many red pills… For those that still don’t know what the purpose of a hashtag is here are a few things which might help them make more sense to you:
They help put emphasis on a statement, sentence or point you are trying to make.
They group conversations so you can see and follow the stream in real time.
Helps users join conversations as events unfold in real-time.
Facebook said recently in a blog post “a simple way to see the larger view of what’s happening or what people are talking about.”
They are FUCKING cool.
The new feature with also be Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and Tumblr friendly so if your accounts are linked then you are #winning. I am personally pretty stoked about this change and it’s only one of twenty that Facebook will be rolling out in the coming months that are based around user conversations!
If your Twitter account is linked to Facebook and all your Tweets show up on Facebook you are still failing at life though. The #tags may become relevant but all your @mentions will still show up (and serve no purpose). Rather link your Facebook > Twitter and then you won’t look like a newbie 😉
Head over to my Facebook Page if you want to see how it works [here] and ask me anything you want to know!
