Cape Town Whale – VIDEO FOOTAGE

The 32 foot vessel was breached by the 40 ton beast, snapping the intrepid mast in 2, whilst causing quite a scare to the couple on board!

I am sure many of you have herd and are well aware of the young Southern Right whale that wrecked a 32 foot yacht just off the coast of the Table Bay Harbour. I have seen a couple pictures of it myself, but have managed to get my hands on a video clip of the incident compliments of CNN.

The 32 foot vessel was breached by the 40 ton beast, snapping the intrepid mast in 2, whilst causing quite a scare to the couple on board! Ralth Mothes, 59, and his partner Paloma Werner, 50, were enjoying a relaxing cruise on the Atlantic ocean, watching a whale doing his thing nearby. Before they knew it the whale had disappeared and when they saw it again it was too late. The young Southern Right had climbed on board with them, after breaching the water and flopping straight on top of them!

A young Southern Right having a whale of a time in Table Bay!

No one was injured but the thing that kills me is the people in the video who did not even stop to help the poor couple? No only that, but also the fact that they are laughing and saying: “Eish it’s a disaster!”, whilst they sail away into the distance.

Miss Werner was quoted by News 24.com as saying: “There were bits of skin and blubber left behind, and the mast was wrecked. It brought down the rigging too.” The couple’s mast and the engine cover will reportedly cost about £10,000 to repair.

Whats left after the yacht was breached. Eish!
