After a successful inaugural event in 2012, Robben Island’s very own triathlon the Tri-Rock Robben Island is back on the 12th of October and entries are selling fast.
The prestigious triathlon offers athletes a truly unique experience on one of the world’s most famous heritage sites; one that has housed some of the greatest freedom fighters of our time – most notably Nelson Mandela. The event will include two races – the shorter distance “4:14:4” which will consist of a 400m swim, 14km cycle and 4km run and the more challenging “8:28:8” which will consist of an 800m swim, 28km cycle and 8km run.
Expect breathtaking scenery throughout the route – from the swim stage in the harbour to the cycling and running stages of the race which will see athletes pass landmarks sites such as the Robben Island Prison, the Lighthouse and the famous WW2 cannon. The day will also be filled with local music to add to the festivities.
Tri-Rock Robben Island and Robben Island Museum are offering athletes the unique opportunity to experience the island in its fullest with accommodation on the island in one of the prison cells. Guests will learn more about the prison through a tour with an ex-prisoner and warden as well as enjoy dinner and breakfast on site before the big day.
“Tri-Rock Robben Island is not only about honouring the memory of this important piece of our history, it is also about the preservation of the island itself” said Tri-Rock Founder Grant Kunneke. “Through these events, and other upcoming events, we strive to aid in the development and rehabilitation of the island over time. The support from local and international athletes has been incredible and we believe the event this year will be one for the books!”

I have asked them on the Facebook Page and will get back to you ASAP. Do you have Twitter so I can just tweet you Donna?
Hey Donna they will provide the bike bags for you and it’s included in the entry fee:
“Hi Dylan, she probably misunderstood. Entry includes bike transfer to the island with protective bag as they need to get shipped to the island and we dont want any of the bikes damaged. So she doesnt need to worry about purchasing one as they will be provided. Thanks!”
