It is not the first time we have seen this on the big stage, yet it caught the attention of people all over the world…After Bafana Bafana overcame the mighty Le Bleu in a packed Bloemfontein Stadium, French coach Raymond Domenech refused to shake Carlos Alberto’s hand which led to some strong words from the nation – as well as the South African coach! Bafana Bafana went on to win only their second World Cup game in history against the ten men of Le Bleus.
The French camp has constantly been disrupted throughout the build up to the World Cup, whilst Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka got sent home after the second group game for blasting the coaches decision making ability. The team refused to train after the French Football Federation sent home Chelsea’s star striker after he refused to apologise, which received some strong criticism from former Real Madrid and French star Zinedine Zidane. For the French it seems to be a repeat of the 2002 World Cup in Korea/Japan when France were beaten in their opening game by a fired up Senegalese side and never seemed to recover. The French now leave the tournament with South Africa, Slovenia, Greece and African sides Nigeria and Algeria after the group stages 🙁
The notorious ‘handshake refusal’ was seen just months ago after Manchester City full back Wayne Bridge turned away from former team mate John Terry after allegations of involvement with the Man City starts ex girlfriend. Man City went on to win that day, with many players from the side saying the win was for Wayne!
It’s not something you want to see in a World Cup, especially not one for the biggest sport on the planet. But then again what would a World Cup be without controversy? Who could forget the famous incident where Cristiano Ronaldo got Manchester United team mate Wayne Rooney sent off…followed by that devious wink 😉

I believe that Spain performed awesome in the World Cup, Villa is a tremendous player!
Raymond Domenech should have take Karim Benzema in the World Cup. Everything could have been different with him.
I find it puzzling how players like Benzema and Nasri do not make the squad?
