England Euro 2012 Squad

As expected there were a few surprises from good old Roy Hodgson when he announced the England Squad for EURO 2012 moments ago… The biggest absentees for me have to be Manchest United midfielder Michael Carrick, Manchester City right back Micah Richards, West Brom keeper Ben Foster, Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon. I mean Jordan fucking Henderson is the guy on standby… Really?

Above: The England kit that will be used for EURO 2012 that was leaked on Twitter by none other than bad boy Joey Barton… I quite like the fact that it is jus red and white, for the first time in history!

To check out all the new Nike home & away kits for EURO 2012 check out my post with all the images by [clicking here]. I really also would have liked to see Paul Scholes back in the England fold, as I think he is what the side have been missing since he stepped down from International duty! But, at least he will be fresh for next season after he signed a new 1 year deal with Manchester United. So without further a dew the Enland Squad for EURO 2012 is:

England Squad:

Goalkeepers:

Joe Hart (Man City)

Robert Green (West Ham)

John Ruddy (Norwich)

Defenders:

Glen Johnson (Liverpool)

Phil Jones (Man Utd)

John Terry (Chelsea)

Gary Cahill (Chelsea)

Joleon Lescott (Man City)

Ashley Cole (Chelsea)

Leighton Baines (Everton)

Midfielders:

Ashley Young (Man Utd)

Steven Gerrard CAPTAIN (Liverpool)

Frank Lampard (Chelsea)

Theo Walcott (Arsenal)

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal)

Gareth Barry (Man City)

James Milner (Man City)

Stewart Downing (Liverpool)

Scott Parker (Spurs)

Strikers:

Wayne Rooney (Man Utd)

Danny Welbeck (Man Utd)

Andy Carroll (Liverpool)

Jermain Defoe (Spurs)

What are your thoughts on the squad? I would love to hear what you think about the choices, as well as who you think would be the best starting x1? Are there any names you would have liked to have seen that I haven’t mentioned? Please write me a comment below and tell me your thoughts… 23 days till kick-off, I can’t wait!!!

I have same concerns as you do.
Happy with the strikers. Don’t know how milner or Downing got in. Wouldve had Lennon and Carrick there. Rio will be missed, and englands defence will struggle with lescott and terry who are both the same type of player.
Shocked that richards wasn’t included, considering walker, smalling are both out. Glen johnson wouldn’t be in my top 5 at right back.

With the squad selected my starting line-up would be:

    Hart

    Jones, Lescott, Terry, Cole.

    Chameberlain, parker, barry, lampard, young.

    Rooney.

Who the fuck knows why Gerrard has been named captain.

Thanks for that awesome comment brother! Downing has been crap all season, Milner has hardly played. VERY stoked they gave Ox the nod though he has a lot to offer the future of English football. Carrick for me was one who I thought would choose himself, but Hodgson thinks otherwise! This is my starting x1 that I would like although Roy won’t start Ox he will start with Walcott!

      Hart

      Johnson, Terry, Cahill, Cole.

      Ox, Parker, Gerrard, Young.

      Rooney

      Welbeck

only problems i see with this squad is Andy Carroll, i think he should be replaced by Peter Crouch. any thing that andy is able to do crouch can do better.

glad to see some of the gunners are in the squad, but with such a squad im not too sure if theo is really needed. i would have gone with a more skillful player such as dyer….his got the legs and his got better ball control.

not a fan of Phil Jones, his the guy who you can never really depend on because at any moment he could do something stupid.

its sad to not see Jack Wilshere not in the team due to injuries, but he would have been a great creative mid.
this is where Dyer has better quality than Walcott who isnt as creative.

in all this is a great side, just not a winning euro squad.

lastly, all i ask is now the gunner players come back without injuries. international injuries seem to be great worry for us as we have had many unfortunate situations during internationals

Thanks my man… Nathan Dyer has been top class the whole season… Pity he never even got a sniff. I would even have Cleverly ahead of Walcott out on the right! Agree that Crouch can do anything Carroll can and better, would have liked to see Sturridge get a chance ahead of Defoe who has hardly featured! I really think Richards is better than Johnson too!

my main concern when it comes to this team is the age of the players. most of these players are either at or past thier prime, and because of that i dont really see a real winning future for England.

they seem to embrace thier legends for such a long period of time that when the young ones come in they are either at thier prime or just about to pass it. this time surely needed to be young, young but strong enough to see the english side actaully be a competitor in the next world cup.

maybe im looking too far into the future, but instant success is nothing compared to great and ever lasting success.
clear example is the barcelona/ spanish side, most of those players have been playing in the first team squad for years before their true success came into light.

i agree with youabout Richards, he has the pass and the strength needed against strong teams such as Germany and Italy.

and finally Roy, well really theres not much else to say about him because well its Roy. such a disappointing choice

The squad doesnt give me great confidence about advancing deep into the later stages. I think the defence will crumble if they come up against the Germans, Spanish or the Italians!!

    • Mr. Cape Town May 16, 2012 at 9:01 pm #

Yeah really bummed Richards got left out for Johnson… I know he hasn’t played as much football but he has been immense when he has played. He is by far the best RB in England!!! What is your starting back 4?

Johnson Terry Cahill Cole is mine

      • Craig - Surfers Corner May 16, 2012 at 9:33 pm #

To be honest I am not sure – but when l look at what we are taking with us I can see most of the top strikers and attacking wingers in Europe being to clever and fast for these guys!

I think it went wrong when they chose Roy Hodgson – he’s a top bloke, but Harry would have had the respect of the team and got the players wanting to win for him let alone the country!

I dont want to sound too negative – but time to be real, I’ve got my hopes up way too much in the past watching England play and feeling completely gutted as we get embarrassed in all international matches and tournaments…

Likewise mate… Agree Harry was the man for the job too!
