Knead Bakery, Kloof Street – Bad Service

I went to try out the new(ish) KNEAD BAKERY in Kloof Street a week or two ago. In saying that, I didn’t even get further than my Fanta Orange seeing as though we walked out before eating… Initially we went to Woodland’s up in Deer Park, but they apparently work in sittings and therefore had no space for us. So after walking past Knead a while back (and laying my eyes on their pizza’s) I thought we should go check it out! Big mistake…

Having been a waiter myself I am pretty chilled when it comes to waiting a bit for food if it is worth it. In all honesty the venue is cool, has a hip crowd and yes the food does like quite tasty. But not when you get a second hand pizza as your main course!!! We ordered the Butter Chicken Curry & Breakfast pizza’s, with the idea of sharing half each. After our drinks arrived we waited quite a while for our chow, but that wasn’t really an issue after seeing a few other nice pizza’s pass my nose.

The problem came when I saw them deliver a pizza to a lady a few tables away from us. From the look on the waitresses face, I could see the manager had taken our pizza to the wrong table. (as it was also sitting alongside a breakfast pizza on the pass, which happened to be no co-incidence) He then went back to her and she was definitely not giving that thing back, so the waitress again told him it’s not her pizza. We saw her being seated so I knew it was the pizza that we were waiting for, whilst out breakfast Pizza was getting cold in the mean time. They then took it direct from her grasp (yes she was touching it and shit) and tried to give it to us?

There was no way in Hell I was going to let that happen! I mean, who in their right mind brings customers a second hand pizza, that another patron has handled? We got up, I told the manager Lesley to get the bill (after he was trying to tell us the pizza was perfectly fine) and left. The only positive thing about the visit was that we didn’t pay for our Fanta and Lemonade… After ranting on Twitter I noticed many people have had problems with the KNEAD BAKERY brand. So, I thought I would include their issues in the blog post too. Oh and after all the Tweets (and there were quite a few) I still haven’t got a reply. Seems their social media management is just as bad as their customer service!!!

Other Customer Complaints About KNEAD BAKERY:

@Nutcase_Nick (Wembley Square)

Was sitting at KNEAD BAKERY in Wembley Square today only to receive crap service. I basically paid R35 to wait for an hour? The coffee special also said R10 for an Americano and they charged me R15 on the bill…

@TashMontlake (Kloof Street)

I visited the KNEAD BAKERY on Kloof a while back. It took 20 minutes for them to bring us menu’s and another 45 minutes to order and receive our coffee’s. After that whole mission they were out of the dish that I ordered!

@Gabi_Roumega (Wembley Square)

I am a regular at the KNEAD BAKERY in Wembley Square. I ordered extra avo and ended up leaving with none. I swear that place is not worth my sanity. The service there really doesn’t impress me!

    Pretty much the same situation at the Dean Street Newlands one. The service is beyond shocking.

    Kloof Street has become the hell of “trendy ripp offs”. Gone are the days of hidden treasures where quality food was served at a reasonable price..Kloof Street is just another overpriced tourist trap like the rest of Cape Town where wannabe trendy socialites gets taken for a ride..

      True brother… Tried The Pasta Factory the other day which was one of the last gems in the area… Closed down 🙁

    Haters gonna hate, that’s a fact. I’ve only ever had awesome service and food from Knead, but all establishments have their ups and downs. Give it another bash – the pizzas really are a fucking treat!

      Hey Gareth, I am far from a hater brother… We as consumers give people our hard earned money in return for a professional product or service… They couldnt provide either on this occasion and I wrote about it on Twitter. After seeing others had also had problem I thought it was worth a blog post and clearly it was, due to the fact they have taken it on the chin and want to rectify the situation. Exactly how and good player in the hospitality industry should!

      P.S the only reason I went was because I was craving a good pizza, and, that’s exactly how they looked when I walked past a while ago. Just a pity the manager and service were poor!

    Seriously? I have been going to Knead in wembley since they opened and I’ve had nothing but excellent service, never mind superb sandwiches. I imagine all restaurants have their issues from time to time and I’m pretty sure they’ll use this review in a constructive way.

      Yip, they have gotten back to me although it took a while… It’s a personal blog I share my personal experiences and with the prices we pay for food these days we deserve good service… As well as management without issues, I have worked in the industry myself and it’s unacceptable… Clearly I wasn’t the only one after quite a few people came back with complaints.

      The worst for me was @StephanieBe (after I wrote this) as they served her bacon on a toasted sandwich… She hadden eaten pork in 10 years and for me that is shocking! Let’s see how they want to go about clearing this up, thanks for your views and reading Georgie!
