I opened the fridge yesterday only to find a weird new product taking up the space where my left overs from the night before usually hang out. Like any intrigued person I picked up the thing and initially thought it was a new brand of crab sticks someone had bought. After reading the packaging and putting 2 and 2 together, I realised these things were nothing but cheese strings.
My buddy Ricky who is quite up to date with regard to products and global marketing told me that they are a huge thing in the USA! I had to go ahead and taste the thing and you know what, it isn’t all that bad. Fair enough, it looks artificial and is by far no match for some well matured Gouda, but it sure does it’s job as a competitor to Melrose. The packaging explains the different ways you can peel the cheese stick apart in an attempt to make your own “character”. Please look at the pictures below so you know what I mean by, “your own character”.
I do like the fact that each cheese string is individually packaged, which ensures a longer life for the cheese. I must say overall I am not a huge fan of the product, but I do think it might make some waves in the younger, childrens market 😉 If you have never seen something like this before the article, please let me know your views, as this is a first for me! Awe.
Dylan, find out what happened to those condensed milk things that came in different colours and looked like a little guy, and the cap was a hat haha. Those things were epic.
Haha Dirkie. Those things were deep, think about the amount of sugar in those things? Primary School tuck shops would have a field day tuning that brand in the wake of the new consumption laws etc. 😉
i had these strings in the UK and i must say i just loved it, a few weeks ago i got it in our store at Woolworths , could not believe my eyes, so guess who is going to buy it on a regular base. i just love this strings xxx
I ate these regularly while living in the UK so imagine how thrilled I was to find them here a couple of years ago! But I haven’t been able to find any for about a year or so and now that I’m pregnant, its what I’m craving most!! Are they available in SA still? I want my brother to bring me some when he flies in next week but we’re not sure if they’ll be allowed in. Please help ASAP!
Thanks! 🙂
I actually don’t know! Sorry…
